It’s about the internet shopping service DHL’s easyshop, and how cost me a steep price to ship my online purchases, since they charge based on "volumetric weight" and not actualy weight only.
I ordered a few small things from Amazon that got packaged in a single box. The box’s weight was 3.7 KG, but its volumetric weight (which is calculated height X width X length divided by 5000) of the box was 8.1 KG. half of the box was full of air bubbles, which increased the size (and therefore the price) of the shipment. I ended up paying 560 Saudi riyals ($149) (as you can see in their receipt) instead of 315 Saudi riyals ($83) which is the cost of 3.7 KG.
Yes, they have it in the contract. But how would you know how big the box you’re going to receive is when you’re ordering online? There’s no way, even if you’re ordering one thing only. Which means you will probably end up paying much more than you should most of the time. Aramex is aware of this, and won't consider the volumetric weight unless the box is very large.
To let people know about this point, and show them a more affordable alternative. Maybe I was able to take this financial loss, but I know that many other people wouldn't.
Aramex's shop & ship is the best services I've tried so far. There might be a small delay in delivery, but at least you can guarantee the price of the shipment by knowing its weight only. MyUS is another alternative as well, but I don't know anything about it.
No. I've mentioned Aramex here because it's more affordable, and it's the only company offering a competing service locally.

طلبت اربع قطع صغيره من موقع Amazon, و قاموا بوضعها جميعا لي في صندوق واحد. الصندوق يزن 3.7 كيلو جرام, و لكن وزنه الحجمي (يحسب عن طريق ضرب العرض في الارتفاع في الطول تقسيم 5000) هو 8 كيلو جرام. نصف الصندوق كان مليئا بالاكياس الهوائية التي في الواقع زادت من حجم (و بالتالي سعر) الشحنة. كلفني شحن الصندوق 560 ريال سعودي ($149) (كما ترى في الفاتورة) بدلا من 315 ريال سعودي ($83) التي هي تكلفة 3.7 كيلو جرام.
نعم, و هو موجود في عقد الخدمة. و لكن كيف يتوقعون منك معرفة الصندوق الذي سيصلك في حالة طلبك عن طريق الانترنت؟ هذا شبه مستحيل, حتى في حالة طلبك لشيء واحد فقط. مما يعني انك ستدفع اكثر مما يجب في اغلب الاحوال. شركة Aramex تعي هذي النقطه, و تقوم بمحاسبتك على وزن الشحنة فقط الا في حالة كان الصندوق كبير جدا.
لتنبيه الناس عن هذه النقطه, و ارشادهم الى خدمة بديله تكلفتها اقل. قد يكون باستطاعتي تحمّل هذه الخساره الماليه, و لكن اعلم ان الكثيرين غيري لن يستطيع ذلك.
Aramex shop & ship هي افضل خدمة جربتها حتى الآن. قد يحدث تأخير بالتوصيل, لكن على الاقل تضمن مبلغ الشحنة بمعرفة وزنها فقط. MyUS يعتبر بديل آخر ايضا, لكن لا اعلم عن تلك الخدمة شيئا
لا, و لكن تم ذكرها هنا لانها ارخص, و لانها الشركه الوحيده التي تقدم خدمه منافسه محليا.
